Marcia Pagels: Art Gallery

These are paintings of home. Marcia lived most of her life in the Eichler Highlands, a quarter mile from the San Andreas Fault, near a dam almost on top of it and lakes right on it. The San Andreas isn't just a geological border here, but an ecological and human one: to the west rise green coastal mountains, all fog and redwoods; to the east, sun, grass and oaks fringing one of the world's great cities.

And the truth is, she spent nearly as much time in museums and theatres as in the wilds. Though she championed wilderness all her life, she actually lived straddling the faultline between city and wild.

Below are paintings set within a few miles of the San Andreas Fault: from coastal San Francisco and Pacifica down along the San Andreas Lakes, the Filoli Estate, and the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
