Beauty's link to status and privilege bothers me. Beauty's a shadow economy, in which attractive people, creatures, trees, flowers, even rocks or landforms are designated "rich" in beauty, and get perks (or parks)... while the rest of us uglies, including manatees, get eaten, beaten, paved, enslaved... or just run down.
