Radiate Sorrow

1980s, picture-poem based on a daydream-image by Chris Wayan
The rest of us lesser
heavenly bodies
have each other:
cratered, battered, shadowed...
real and rounded.

But the Sun's searching
gold eye sees only
little flat-lit
full-moon rubble.
Dead without shadows.

Five billion years
the Sun peers.
Sun has no peers.
Sun has no tears.

Radiate sorrow!
The sun is alone.

the lonely sun
