SPLIT SEVEN WAYS
60K, 640 x 480, a 1992 digital self-portrait by Chris Wayan
I feel split into warring impulses who argue, advise, ignore, and even snipe at each other. They appear in my dreams as autonomous personalities
Here are seven of the most common, with their favorite mantras:
- "Do you like me?" (when I have doubts if I like YOU)
- "Face what's going on!"(when 'what's going on' is often just emotional drama this part creates)
- "I just don't know..." (when I do, I do, I do.)
- "Don't tell me what I want!"(when I don't know)
- "I aim for the truth" (as she snipes at the others)
- "I'll blindly push on..." (not blind--eyes SHUT! Wasting all my effort)
- "I know how split we are" (and as I practice the splits, I wonder if I do that spiritually too--encourage multiplicity! It may mess up your life, but... then you have something to make art about, don't you?)
