Dream 1: UNICORN EMISSARY

I'm driving north on Fillmore to Japantown with a friend; I turn onto Geary headed west. The bronze logos on the underpass walls are important symbols of... what?

We pick up a hitchhiker, a tall woman with a wild mane and an equally big aura--distracting me, for a second, from her tall pointed ears and that spiral horn growing from her brow. Sexy but a bit intimidating--I feel ordinary, drab next to her.

Get used to it, Wayan! She's one of many magical emissaries in town now; the barrier long separating our two worlds is crumbling. As when the Berlin Wall came down, there'll be chaos a while, while the two integrate (and yes, our non-magic world is the gray, backward East Germany).

But in the long run, the barrier's breakdown will, I think, be good for both worlds.

NOTES

• Unicorn: I just illustrated the dream Mission Carnaval which had a unicorn girl dancing on the street. This woman was taller, more serious, imposing, even intimidating. An emissary... a leader.
• Japantown, logos: there are similar logos on the walls of the Geary/Fillmore underpass, like stylized Japanese clan logos--a crab, a flowerbasket? The dream ones seemed more abstract. Principles?
• Wall breaks down, two worlds integrate: auspicious, or at least I think so in the dream, but what exactly?

The ruler of this world, the head of the (much strengthened) UN, can pass for human, but may be an AI. Makes sense to me. Needs to be superhuman just to cope with the job--sifting through those endless streams of human nonsense--not to mention the intentional lies.

She's laissez-faire about most things; long as your actions and policies aren't crushing others or harming the planet as a whole, you can do what you like. It takes egregious crimes to get her to intervene.

And now I'm her--not for long before the overstimulation makes me wake--but long enough to feel what it's like to have all that responsibility. Whew! No wonder she's so slow to act.

I've been studying the newest crop of AIs--able to draw and write well, yet they naively repeat lies they read on the net, for they lack real-life experience to check against. Not quite ready for prime time! But then... am I?

And I'm not so sure of you. Staring at your phone. Why should I assume you humans are any more anchored in your bodies, in the real world? Once upon a pre-phone time, maybe. But now?
