Edgar Cayce
Edgar Cayce, 1877-1945, was an American psychic who normally worked while asleep, answering questions (largely medical, though I've chosen less technical examples below). An unassuming man, he refused to charge for his services and lived simply (sometimes hand-to-mouth). One could call him a do-it-yourself shaman, in a culture lacking the concept.
His tutelary spirit, speaking in trance, is deeply strange. An egoless, inhuman perspective far distant from our emotions or experiences, seeing us as entities or knots of energy just provisionally wearing bodies. Specific enough when giving a medical prescription, but harder to follow when it's a financial or moral prescription!
This list includes just one of his own dreams (God Provides), several of his readings of others' dreams (Bugaboo, Red Flag to a Bull, The Spider Speaks), several more from workshops at his center (Porpoises; Rabbit, Beaver, Fish) or recounted in his biography (Sally's Numbers), and a few unconnected to Cayce personally but incorporating his dream theories (Adrenaline Hall, Coyote Sent Me Cash, Mouse Workout). Oh, and an epic dream including him as a character (His Mine).
