INUIT HUNT

Crayon frottage (rubbing to catch texture from underneath), 1985? By Chris Wayan

Inuit hunter and several rearing sea lions

I was trying to catch the fluid streamlined feeling of marine mammals by stripping the paper off crayons and twisting them on their sides. It's the only dry technique I know that creates an instant gradient...

...and to catch the simplicity of Inuit prints. Though their techniques (in seal hunting as well as art) are nothing like this.
