KRELKIN AND KIOSK

After hearing the song MORAL KIOSK, by REM, I had a REM episode about it: I dreamed I was a sort of singing mare-girl called the Krelkin, trying to lure the Reading Man out of his lonely Moral Kiosk. On the walls of the Moral Kiosk were tacked all sorts of moral influences and commandments, from God to TV... A wall of rules!

I used music (and sex appeal) to lure him away from his moral tales and get him out among the living... but it was hard work. So many rights and wrongs! Clay statue: a naked longhaired man reading inside a kiosk. Clay statue: peering past the horselike Krelkin's hip into the Moral Kiosk.

The two nosy ravens represent not death but play--they're all over SF City College campus, where I sculpted and fired this piece. I'd never met such a bunch of cheerful, playful ravens. Of course, endless sandwiches and steady updrafts would make me cheerful too if I had wings...

Okay, okay, I admit it, five views is overkill. I'm just very fond of this silly sculpture. It brings back memories. I loved being a krelkin. Felt right and happy in my body.
