MATISSE IS NO MOE

Prehistoric digital picture (1988! 16 colors!) by Chris Wayan
For Henri Matisse, that late great paper-cutter

A tribute to Matisse--but as I cut out shapes, they got mixed up with the Three Stooges. In case you were deprived of the joys of American TV, the Stooges were sado-humorists specializing in the comedic potential of hammers, heads, pliers and noses. Larry, Curly, Moe and Shemp (yes, four of them) scared the hell out of me as a kid. They still do.

A picture-poem with Matisse-y cutout figures on black, singing an ode to the Three Stooges.
The Ode reads:

O Woe! O Woe!
Mattisse is no Moe!
(No Larry Curly or
Shemp neither...)
