My first memory is of being a horse and waking up to find I was a human child. So I always liked Franz Marc's animal paintings. I felt he identified with animals the way I do.

But his school/group was called the Blue Rider. That should have tipped me off--the human rider, mastering the horse.

Franz Marc died young. This lover of animals volunteered and fought and died for Imperial Germany. He mastered his animal side, and did the manly thing.
