Pan, fauns, and satyrs; bipedal goat/human beings; traditional symbols of wine, sex, nature, and music, especially pipes and flutes. The ancestors of the Christian picture of devils, due to the cult of Pan, which sent them into a panic. No really, that's where the word comes from...

Dream-fauns aren't all Classical, though. At least half these dreams feature female fauns, not males; and both sexes seem taller and more graceful than "goat-legs" suggests (close to 2m (7') in a couple of dreams); often they sport longer tails for better balance up on those stiltlike legs, too. All in all, dream-fauns seem to be a biological what-if experiment: could digitigrade legs (where the anatomical equivalent of the heel never touches down) support a bipedal creature, or is it too wobbly, is a plantigrade foot (human, heel-down) necessary? Of course dreams of such creatures may have other meanings, but many of mine do play with this idea of balance, of reaching higher precisely because one has an animal foundation!

Still, taken as a group, there's a basic sexiness and lack of inhibition that the ancient Mediterranean people would have recognized as, uh, pardon the adjective, satyrical.
