EDITOR'S NOTE

Though this drawing's title declares it a dream, and the "abysses" in question are clearly undersea, there is no dream-text to go with it. Girondé's agent and I, in broken French and English, did establish that Marie means "dream" literally: she wakes up (often in early morning) from a dream knowing it has to be painted.
