Prophets in the Air
Recurring dreams, 1897-99?, by Minnie Evans (age 5-7?), painted Dec. 1959
Raised as a Baptist, she often dreamed about the Bible stories she heard at church. Some of these were from the books of prophets in the Old Testament.
After she fell asleep and just as the moon was setting, five or six "old Abraham prophets" appeared in her mind. She felt them carry her to the "Old Soldiers" cemetery, where Union soldiers had been buried during the Civil War. The prophets seemed to tickle her sides and toss her back and forth.
"You needn't be afraid," the old men laughed. "We ain't going to let you fall."
