Sunrise Sacrifice
Painted c.1947 by Minnie Evans
I don't know if this is dream or myth. Evans loved tales of the Greeks and the Trojan War. Painting Dreams: Minnie Evans, Visionary Artist, p.15, shows a similar woman with a throned, crowned man; author Mary Lyons writes "This royal couple could be Paris, the Trojan prince, and Helen, the kidnaped Greek queen."
But in this image, she's holding what looks like a flaming torch. This suggests an older Iliad queen: Hecuba, Queen of Troy, when pregnant with Paris, dreamed she gave birth to a lit torch that burned Troy. Hecuba's dream is why Paris was exiled (not that it helped; he survived, kidnaped Helen and started the war). Evans, disparaged and even beaten for painting her own dreams and visions, might well identify with a prophetic dreamer like Hecuba.
