How the gifted get defined and treated matters personally to me, for I was a child prodigy (IQ somewhere between 180 and 200) and I know exactly what geniuses are supposed to be like, because everyone explained me to me--when they weren't beating me up, of course! Every "severely gifted" person I've met, and that's a lot, takes it for granted (like my "of course") that normal people were hostile to us as individuals and to intellectuality in general. That's openly sanctioned here in America--a culture proud that it's not racist or sexist.
Prodigies looking for info on geniuses and IQ should start with Prodigies' Oddities, The Bell Curve, Grady Towers' famous article The Outsiders, Fire in the Crucible and perhaps Dreamwork in a Decadent Age. I'm compiling a short bibliography for the severely gifted. Email me, suggest things! Did a book or film or article save your life? Any organizations or websites help?
Still, this is the World Dream Bank, so many of the blurbs on the list below lead to dreams of geniuses and IQ issues. Since I grew up in unusual circumstances--a family crawling with severely gifted and pretty eccentric adults and kids--geniuses in MY dreams are generally familiar and friendly. Yours may not be--dream geniuses may symbolize minds out of balance, over-intellectualizing, ignoring their bodies or hearts or souls. If your dreams are crawling with mad scientists, they could be your teacher or your boss--but remember, they could be you.
