Interviews

In the dreams below, dream entities consent to interviews or question-and-answer sessions, spelling out matters vital to the dreamer without the slightest need for interpretation. Though in a few, it's the other way round: the dream interviews the dreamer!

Many theories of dreams would consider such dreams impossible. Most brain researchers (not all) see dreams as a mere byproduct of housekeeping functions of the brain--fixing memories or purging unnecessary ones, or perhaps (at most) reviewing the day or planning for tomorrow. Interpretation is at best unnecessary and at worst superstition--reading patterns in noise. On the other hand, dreamworkers and working therapists see meaning in dreams, but often assume dreaming is a primal state, full of blind urges and forces. Neither group sees dreams as self-aware entities. Even Jung, the most respectful, calls it the unconscious! Lucid dream research does assert that the self can be aware and logical in dreams; but the dreamworld remains essentially primal and fluid, a thing to be shaped by the "awakened" dreamer.

What if that's wrong? Interview dreams certainly challenge that view--they suggest that the dreaming mind as a whole, and even dream characters, can be self-aware.
